Difference between fumigation and fogging
Quite often in the Pest Control industry, we are asked about fumigation and thermal fogging. Also, these terms are used interchangeably, whereas they have different meanings and uses. Thermal Fogging and Fumigation are two absolutely different processes, though they might sound similar.
Through this blog, we want to help you understand the difference between the two-
Fumigation
Fumigation is a process which uses a highly toxic gas. The gas is odourless and colourless. It involves the use of gaseous pesticides called fumigants. Fumigation is typically employed to eradicate a wide range of pests in enclosed spaces such as buildings and warehouses.
Fumgation is highly used in wheat warehouses and places where foodgrains are stored. In this process fumigants are released as gases, filing the space entirely. This ensures that all cracks and crevices are penetrated and no pests remain in hiding.
Please note that fumigation requires a high level of expertise and often necessitates the sealing of the area to contain the gas for a specific period, after which the space is aerated to make it safe for humans and animals.
Fogging
Fogging involves the use of diesel and pesticides to create smoke/fog. It is used to target pests like mosquitos and spiders. This method is often used indoors and in enclosed spaces. The fog is usually created using specialised equipment that breaks down a liquid insecticide into fog. As pests come in contact with this fog, they are exterminated.
Fogging is done by highly trained professionals to ensure that pests are eradicated. The process needs utmost care.
Fogging is also effective in open areas to control the menace caused by pests.
